In light of the holiday season, I thought I would give you some fashionable ideas on what to wear…and what are some holiday fashion No, No’s! Holidays are always fun, but if you have a party to go to, or just want to look good while with family and friends, the outfit is usually the hardest thing to plan. This season, you should first try using some black lace. By using black lace, you will be able to show off some of those revealing areas (cleavage, arms, and back). Black is not only slimming but it can also make you look very chic! Also, metallic is a very vibrant for the holiday season. These include: Gold, bronze, champagne, and silver. Next is sequins. With sequins you want to keep the silhouette fresh. In other words, look for beading on the hems or just around the neckline. Lastly, a little black or red dress is also going to be a big hit. Look for winter-only fabrics like velvet or wool. Either way, both black and red are popular colors and can look great on anyone.

While you want to look festive for the holiday season, there are a few mistakes you can make! First of all, you want to make sure that you aren’t wearing too much glitz. The big thing about wearing metallic and sequins is that too much shine can overwhelm anyone, so try and keep it to a minimum. Next, don’t show too much skin. Mini-skirts etc. can be hot, but they are not too hot for holiday parties. No everyone can pull off being a runway model, so you probably should wear stuff that accents you beauty….like lace trimmed camisole under a blazer hints at great cleavage, a small slit on a skirt gives a glimpse at gorgeous legs, a halter dress shows off toned arms. When dressing for a party or family gathering during the holidays, there is no need to stress and make the outfit more complicated than it needs to be. In cases like this, go with a classic style such as the little black or red dress. Lastly, try not to be under-dressed or over-dressed! Either find out whether it is a casual or cocktail party, or again, go with a classic style.

The Hopeful Calvin Klein

With the economy in a down turn, many fashion designers are hurting. One of these designers is Calvin Klein. He has been through some rough patchy moments, but he belives there are bright and shiny days ahead with his 2009 Spring collection. Situating the models in a disco-looking gold reflective set piece, he used the warm sunny shades of champaign, fuchsia, coral and yellow on swing coats, knit tanks and silky dresses. He also offered the cream style sport coat and straight leg pants…even for the guys. Klein wanted it to be a lets party and carefee vibe. On the denim side, he is offering all sorts of different styles, some with faux rips and patches. What Calvin Klein is trying to do, is bring a necessity for spring and summer clothes to be a single unfussy idea, whether its a bright color or print, with jazzy type shoes, to help the customer carry an ensemble’s coversation.

Enlight of the Presidential election and the announcement of Barack Obama, I though that it would be a perfect time to talk about Michelle Obama’s fashion and what fashion she will be bringing to The White House. Michelle Obama is emerging as a new high-profile clotheshorse. From her striking sundress from the White House/Black Market that she wore on the View, to her Narcosis Rodriguez dress, from the spring 2009 collection, to wear the night she became first lady, everything she has worn has seemed to stand out and make a fashionable impact on the American people. It will be interesting to see what kind of fashion impact Michelle Obama will have in the next few years.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As I am sure we all know, October is the month for Breast Cancer Awareness. Before the the month is over, I wanted to share just a few items that are out there, that people/companies are trying to promote in order to raise money so people can win the fight. Cinique is one company that is offering to make a big difference. They are offering you great skin for a great cause. The have a limited edition Dramatically Differenta Moisturizing Lotion, that comes with a FREE key chain complete with silver-tone charms, a Clinique “C” and Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon. $10 from your purchase is then used to support the Canceer Research Foundation. While these two companies are not fashionable, they make your skin look great when you wear your fashionable attire. But they are both for a good cause.

Right now, the new thing for fashion accessories is the earthy type tones and stones. The rugged look of just found stones has become very popular. With no definite shape, size and cut, it makes these gems the new passion for fashion. But it is not just the jewelry and accessories that are a big hit, its also the things such as boxes with amethyst and brass that make these things stand out to people. Labradorite “claw” rings are very popular as well. Geodes and diamond bangles are very popular as too. While these items may cost a lot from the fashion designers making them, they are basic ideas that can help you when you go shopping. Just because they cost a lot through these designers, there are always those generic type accessories that make you look just as good! Another type of necklace that is popular is the long circle necklaces with different stones put throughout it. Even clutch bags accessories with large gems on them are very popular. Basically, anything embellished with stones is a must have! Just remember, you don’t have to have the real thing to look good and feel great!

Carson Kressley’s Fall Fashion Through New York & Company

Carson Kressley was on the Bonnie Hunt Show on October 15, 2008 where he showed up to help women look at what they could wear from New York & Company and be fashionable. Carson is the host of the show, How To Look Good Naked and has done a lot of work in the fashion industry. The first model that he brought out, was Whitney who was an event planner. She had a black and white dress with very little print. Over the dress she wore a deep purple cardigan which is a very popular fall 2008 color. She was also wearing a 1950′s style jewelry. The next model was Rosie, who was a flight attendant. Carson had her in a cropped yellow/mustard jacket with a tunic and trouser jeans. He also added an over-sized bag and wine colored heels. Next was Paige, an architect who had on a red trench coat with trouser jeans and a charcoal shirt with ruffles. Carson wanted to keep her monochromatic. He also finished off the outfit with black flat shoes. The last model he brought out was Hannah a grad student. He took a basic suit and added a ruffle popping color underneath the black blazer jacket. The great thing about this outfit, is that you can use either the jacket or the blazer, or both. But you can easily dress up jeans with a blazer jacket. To finish off Hannah’s outfit, Carson added a snakeskin clutch bag and black heels. Its time for fall fashions! These are straight from the runway, so you decide if you are bold enough to wear these fall fashions of 2008. The first fashion trend is the “minimalist” which is all about the short dresses and skirts paired with tights and leggings. The next fashion is the “wild looks and prints.” This style lets you let out the inner animal out by wearing leopard and zebra prints, and even possibly wearing fur hems and skirts. The third fashion trend is the “Bohemian” look, which you can wear things such as tie dye or velour pants. The fourth fashion is back, its the “plaid” fashion. Yes, plaid is again rad! Here is your chance to wear plaid jackets, skirts, dresses and even plaid accesories. Next is the fifth fashion, which lets out the “artsy” side in you. Show your style with artsy styles and looks. This lets you take fashion to a whole new level by mixing plaids, polka dots or anything else you may find to throw together and makes you look good. The second to last fashion trend, is the “tailored” look. This look lets you show a bit of a male side with pinned striped pants and suits. The last fashion for the fall of 2008, is the ”knits” fashion. This fashion lets you wear knit sweater dresses, coats etc. So this Fall…Dare To Be Fashionable!!

Fashion is such a GREAT thing! No matter who you are, you can express who you are just by the clothes you wear or the accessories you spruce up the outfit with. After last weeks post with Sarah Palin, there was even more for me to touch on. Recently, the big talk has been about Sarah Palin and her “sexy librarian” glasses that she wore at the NRC (National Republican Convention). Funny how back in the day people who wore glasses were SO uncool…but now if they are sexy, they are the thing to have. Apparently people have been wanting and wondering what style glasses Sarah Palin is wearing and where they could pick up a pair. In all honesty, if its going to make me look that good, I might want to pick me up a pair! Although, I will have to get non-prescription and wear them strictly as just an accessory. But that is what is so fantastic about fashion, you can wear whatever makes you smile and designs your inner character.

In response to pr4jwoodsand if the attention that Mrs. Palin is getting is because of gender, I would agree that for this instance, it has a lot to do with gender. I think the last thing people expected was for a woman to be VP. But she is getting a lot of attention from both men and women, whether its because she is beautiful or because she is a woman breaking that glass ceiling that every woman wants to do. –Sarah Palin, YOU GO GIRL! –

Fashion and Criticism

Its funny how far the world has come in fashion. Fashion has been seen as something that expresses who you are as a person. It does not apply to the character that you posses, the ideas that you have, or even the morals of your life. Fashion can easily show people the mood your in or the “style” that you portray. I hate seeing stories in the news about how someone wore this wretched outfit, and what were they thinking? Its one thing to criticize someone for wearing a half shirt/pant suit and a matching pasty covering their nipple (such as Lil’ Kim at the VMA’s in 1999), but how important is it when you have the general public criticizing Sarah Palin for not wearing the right shoes? I heard on a radio show last week that when John McCain announced Sarah Palin as VP, the first thing people criticized was her shoes. I found it funny how a lady on the radio then mentioned that, as a woman they were pretty good shoes! I just wonder, how do Sarah Palin’s shoes have anything to do with her being Vice President? I just don’t understand. Fashion is something that should be looked at as fun and exciting, not something to dwell on and criticize. Get over it!!
